Monday, February 6 - Animal Adventures: Surviving in the Wild
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Collaboration between Meijer Gardens and John Ball Zoo
(Ages 3 and up)
Location: Frederik Meijer Gardens
Fee: $5 members, $7 non-members, ages 2 and younger free
Laugh at winter—join us for an evening of warmth and wonder as you discover fascinating things about animals and how they survive in their environments. Perfect for preschoolers, kindergartners and their families!
- Meet four intriguing animals (mammal, reptile, bird, and amphibian).
- See live animal presentations with zoo handlers, projected on a 20-foot screen.
- Explore the tropical conservatory by flashlight.
- Participate in fun activities including animal story time and animal art activities.
- Have fun playing –What’s for dinner, Pop Up Peek-A-Boo, Frog Hop Along, Listen Up and more.
Space is limited. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Meijer Gardens at 974-5239 or John Ball Zoo at 336-4310. The deadline for each event is the Thursday prior to the event.
Thursday, February 16 - Living With Wildlife - A Panel Discussion
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Lions, Tigers, Bears in our backyards? Not really...But we're hearing more and more about animal-human encounters right here in West Michigan. What is happening an and what can we do to cope with it? Join us!
- Mountain lion sighttings, bear encounters - Can they happen?
- What to do if they do happen.
- Why and how these animals are becoming our close neighbors.
Join us for a panel discussion to learn about these encounters. Our panel includes:
- Wildlife biologists from Michigan Department of Natural Resources
- John Ball Zoo Animal Management and Zookeeper Staff
- Wildlife rehabilitation experts
We will be meeting at John Ball Zoo in the Ballroom (2nd floor of the Zoo Administration Building)

Saturday, February 18 - Job Fair - Gift and Food Seasonal Workers
Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Want to work somewhere WILD this summer?
Upper Level of the Administration Building
We are seeking positive people with great smiles to help us provide quality customer service at our gift and food venues in the zoo. These positions require cash handling and lots of customer interaction. You must be at least 16 years of age by May 1, 2012. All positions require working both Saturdays and Sundays and summer holidays. If you have an outgoing attitude and a desire to serve people we want to meet you! Please come prepared to fill out an application and be prepared to set up a time for an audition in the next couple weeks. Be prepared to meet the hiring managers.
